Welsh Conference Premier Match Previews
The Welsh Rugby League Conference Premier enters its seventh week on Saturday with the new kick-off times of 12pm allowing fans enough time to watch their local team as well as Celtic Crusaders, who are facing Warrington Wolves this Saturday at 6pm at the Brewery Field.

The unbeaten Blackwood Bulldogs will take on the improving Cardiff Demons at Blackwood RFC. Both teams had big wins last weekend against the Cougars and Titans respectively and if those performances are repeated this should be an exciting game.

Demons’ player coach Andrew Bradshaw said: “We had a great over Newport last weekend, we now want to build on that and cause a big upset this weekend against Blackwood. We will be going into the match as underdogs but we are improving with every game and are in a confident mood.”

A win for the Bulldogs will put them on equal points with the Bridgend Blue Bulls, the only other unbeaten team in the Wales Conference.

The Newport Titans will want to forget there last match which saw them lose heavily to there closet rivals Cardiff Demons last weekend when they host the Cougars at Duffryn High School.

Newport coach Earl Palmer said: “We are hoping to get a number of our ‘old heads’ back for this weeks game against the cougars who are obviously going to be a huge challenge for us on Saturday. We have played with a never say die attitude all season and will carry that into Saturday’s game and leave everything on the pitch, I cant fault the guys efforts this season, they have given 100% every game, I expect the same this week and hopefully it will lead to a win.”

Dinefwr Sharks hope to improve on the draw they achieved against the NPT Steelers when they travel to New Panteg RFC to take on Torfaen Tigers. Both teams will need to win if they are to have any chance of claiming a top four spot.

The game between the Bridgend Blue Bulls and West Wales Wild Boers at Porthcawl RFC has been postponed and is likely to be rearranged for Wednesday 15th July.

FIXTURES (Saturday 4th July): all games K.O at Midday.

Demons to host season opener
Cardiff Demons Rugby League Club will host the Scott McRorie 9s tournament which will take place on 16 May 2009 at the Demons new home at St Albans RFC in Cardiff.

The Demons, who are the current holders of the trophy, fought off stiff competition from other Welsh clubs to host the prestigious Welsh Conference Premier season opener. In a unique move Wales Rugby League have decided to play the first round of the tournament as the first weeks conference fixtures. With conference points up for grabs it gives the tournament even more importance to the outcome of the season.

The Demons have relocated from their regular ground at St Peters RFC as the club will be working on the pitch during the summer months. Chairman Andrew Bradshaw said “St Albans have been incredibly supportive of what Cardiff Demons are trying to achieve and their commitment was significant factor in enabling us to host the tournament”, Bradshaw added “The team have been training since February and we’re all really looking forward to the new season. We are excited to have the opportunity to host a tournament that we have won for two consecutive years and are looking forward to inviting everybody to St Albans for what should be a fantastic day”

Team manager Gavin Walker said “It’s still not too late to get involved in Rugby League in Cardiff this summer. If you want to stay it’s a fast-paced and exciting game which requires skill, strength and a great attitude to play.

If that sounds appealing to you, then come along to the Cardiff Demons, we are currently looking for new players to consolidate our squad, and are happy to hear from novices to experienced rugby union and league players. We have a great mix of youth and experience within the squad, with seasoned internationals and newcomers to the game training and playing side-by-side.

We train every Wednesday at St Albans RFC from 6:15, so come along and join in!”
